Chemo Round 1

Merry Christmas, crew!

Kelsey celebrated Christmas Eve with her first round of chemo. We arrived at MD Anderson before the sun was up for lab work. We had time for breakfast and a prayer, then were off to the races — or so we thought! A lab error and machine malfunction set us back a few hours, but she finally got the drugs flowing late morning. Kels is receiving her chemo through a peripheral IV, which means no port or PICC line (a reason to rejoice!). After 7 sticks, 3 hours of infusions, and lots of catching up between us, we were back home and ready to spend the long weekend with our parents.

Kelsey has always been tough. She’s accomplished goals both personally and professionally, from making big moves at work to conquering her fear of heights for the perfect photo op! We have no doubt she will carry the same tenacity while facing this challenge. Not surprising to anyone who knows her, Kelsey has handled her diagnosis, workup, and treatment with grace. She is a shining star in our lives and I know she means as much to many of you, too!

I am most thankful for our incredibly strong, fiercely loving family. I didn’t know it was possible, but we have grown stronger over the last few months. We are so ready to watch our girl kick cancer’s tail and come out on top!

Please continue to show your support for my beautiful sister as she recovers from week to week between treatments. We can’t wait until this is all a distant memory! We are grateful for our friends, family, and doctors who have been a part of this experience. We are truly blessed and joyful this holiday season.

Cheers,
Keely
